Is bronchitis contagious?

my husbands brother came to my house yesterday and stood in my kitchen caughing my husband went with him all day yesterday car shoping well today my brother in law calls and says he went to the emergency room and he has bronchitis. i have three children all under the age of 4 why he would come to my house sick i dont know but should i be worried that my kids or my husband getting sick?
