Radioactive smoke detector?

Last night my smoke detector was beeping because the battery needed changed. So I took it down to change the battery and this strange looking thing had the radioactive symbol on it and said "Caution Radioactive Material" and some strange words and numbers. What danger does that pose to me and my family and do they make ones without radioactive materials in it?
